Why You Should Consider Me as Your Choice for Ward 5
Why you should vote for me …. An excellent question for which I always wish I had a glib or at least a witty response. My two opponents both claim to be the “best candidate” and if you like the status quo and are happy with the directions Broomfield is moving in – continued efforts to attract “growth”, completing the Parkway, subsidizing the Event Center without questioning it, trying to grab as many Federal dollars for various purposes as you can – well, then, unquestionably they are better candidates than I am for such things.
I am the candidate who believes that it is time to recognize that we have already built a very viable, attractive city. I am the candidate who believes that it is time to cater to those individuals and businesses who have already made their commitment to Broomfield and not to those who might deign to come here if the price is right. I am the candidate who does not believe a bigger Broomfield is necessarily a better Broomfield. I am the candidate for those who are concerned with how our tax dollars are being and will be spent. As a CPA for almost 30 years and as a CFO and Controller for several organizations over the years I can not only keep up with the numbers presented to me, I am fully capable of running my own. Trust, but verify. As a former commercial lender with an MBA in Finance (from CU-Boulder) I also know when debt is appropriate, when it is not, and when it can be off the books but can come back to bite a financier of last resort which the City of Broomfield has increasingly become with regard to the Event Center, the Parkway, Arista, Anthem and, soon, the Flatiron Crossing Mall. I am the candidate for those who want a “watchdog” on Council to protect their interests.
Of the three candidates running this year I am the only one who offers that skeptical, savvy, experienced package to voters. As a self-funded, independent candidate with little money and few volunteers it has been difficult to get this message out. If it appeals to you, I ask for your vote. If it doesn't, the other two candidates are fine people, they just won't approach the job in the same way I will. With them the future decisions of the Council will look much like those of the past. With me that may well prove to be the case too as I will have only one vote of 10. But I will definitely use it on behalf of those of us who already call Broomfield home and try to insure that our tax dollars are no longer being used to lure to our town more growth -- growth which I believe is exacerbating our problems, not mitigating them. To repeat: I do not believe a bigger Broomfield is necessarily a better Broomfield. I am the candidate with and for that viewpoint in this race.
